Elissa Silverman Endorsed by City’s Largest Public Sector Employee Union, AFSCME District Council 20

Silverman’s efforts to support D.C.’s working families “stands as a model for others.”

At-Large D.C. Councilmember Elissa Silverman (I) has earned the endorsement of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District Council 20, the city’s largest public sector employee union, for the November 8, 2022, general election.

Your efforts and support for District of Columbia employees and working families across the District stands as a model for others,” said Robert Hollingsworth, Executive Director of AFSCME District Council 20 in a letter announcing the endorsement. “We at AFSCME District Council 20 look forward to supporting and working with you to ensure that you are the elected Councilmember At-Large once again.”

AFSCME District Council 20 represents tens of thousands of employees who work in the District of Columbia government, including in D.C. public schools, as well as workers at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and Howard University Hospital.

Hollingsworth noted Silverman’s work to make D.C. affordable for its employees: “Your initiatives and support on important issues such as affordable housing, investing in our schools, and your support of violence prevention, are examples of why the District of Columbia needs you in its service.”

“I am honored to get the endorsement of AFSCME District 20,” Silverman said. “ It’s really meaningful to me to get that thumbs up from our own employees in the D.C. government.”
